Around the world, millions of people are concerned about how their carbon impact is affecting climate change. You might be feeling concerned as well.

If you’re concerned about your carbon impact, you can do something about it. Check out these ways you can reduce the carbon impact of your home.

Lightbulbs

If you’re living in an older house, chances are you’re still using traditional light bulbs. You should consider swapping your light bulbs out for LED light bulbs instead.

LED light bulbs emit a lot less heat than traditional light bulbs, saving power that would go out as heat. LED light bulbs are also helpful in saving you money on your power bill. Make sure you think about installing LED light bulbs in your home to help reduce your carbon impact.

Openings

During the winter and summer, you’re likely spending a lot on your air conditioning. However, you might be spending more than necessary if you have any openings in your home.

Openings would be any areas around your windows or doors, bringing in more air from outside. You should work on closing all of these openings so that your air conditioning bill drops in price and usage. Ensure that you close any openings around your doors and windows to help the environment.

Water Heaters

As technology progresses, it can become a lot more energy efficient to use. This is true for technology like computers, mobile phones, TVs, and more. However, many homeowners don’t think about how water heaters have gotten more energy efficient over time.

Older water heaters use fiberglass insulation, which isn’t very effective at keeping the heat in. Newer water heaters use different types of insulation that make it so that heat isn’t escaping as much. Other forms of water heaters like tankless water heaters have gained prominence in the past couple of years, giving you many options when choosing a new water heater. Consider swapping out your water heater if you want to reduce your carbon impact.

Standby

After you’ve turned off your electronic devices, you might think that they aren’t using up any power. However, modern electronics tend to go in standby mode.

Standby mode allows you to quickly start up your electronic devices after being off for a while. The drawback to this is that standby mode tends to use electricity no matter what.

To help prevent unnecessary usage of electricity, you should unplug any electronic devices that use standby mode. Make sure you look into how standby modes can increase your carbon impact.
